What is MABAS you ask? MABAS stands for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, which is a mutual aid association between fire departments in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa. MABAS was started in the late 60's with just a few fire departments around the Chicago area, and now has grown to over 500. The main idea is each member has a "box card" for their mutual aid, and all they have to do is call their division's dispatch center for mutual aid. The dispatch center then dispatches all the appropriate agencies, eliminating the need to call multiple agencies. For further information browse our site or go to the main MABAS web site from our links page.
